The “real reason” behind Alan Jones’ stoush with Scott Morrison

Scott Morrison had become the latest prime minister under Alan Jones’ attack after the radio host accused him of failing drought-stricken farmers in a live interview last week.

On his 2GB breakfast radio show Tuesday, Jones claimed the Morrison government’s Farm Household Allowance was inadequate to provide relief to dairy farmers, saying, “How does that feed a cow?”

The broadcaster expanded on his criticism on the same day on his Sky News show. “The Morrison government tonight has a massive political crisis on its hands,” Jones said. “It can be solved, but it’d want to be solved in a hurry otherwise the political fallout will be terminal.”

According to Niki Savva, political columnist and former adviser to John Howard, there was a personal reason behind Jones’ tirade against Morrison.

“There’s a strong view inside the government that Jones is not prepared to cut any slack for Morrison over what he’s doing… because Morrison sided with Jacinda Ardern and not with Jones,” Savva said on ABC’s Insiders.

In August, advertisers began withdrawing from Jones’ program after the shock jock suggested Morrison should “shove a sock down the throat” of New Zealand PM Jacinda Ardern.

At the time, Morrison said Jones’ comments were “way out of line” and “very disappointing”.

Savva said Jones is prepared to hit back at Morrison for the PM’s defense of Ardern.

“He’s not been willing to cut him any slack on this, not allowing him to get his messages out properly, as we saw the other day,” Savva said.
