The cheeky Christmas tradition Prince George has inherited from Princess Diana

Prince George, in all his cuteness, is known to be a little bit mischievous in the public eye. He has been caught giggling and making faces at large royal events, like a royal wedding – typical of any young child.

With his public cheekiness, it only makes sense that his naughty tendencies continue in private. And what can encourage cheekiness more than Christmas and presents?

According to Hello Magazine, Prince William, the young royal’s father, revealed to a radio DJ in 2016 that George has a brazen habit of sneakily unwrapping his Christmas gifts early.

Prince William revealed that Prince George, who was three years old at the time, had started sneaking under their family Christmas tree in Anmer Hall and would begin unwrapping a few gifts.

“I had a really nice chat with Prince William who told me that this was their last week at work, as it were, before Christmas,” KISS FM DJ AJ King shared with Hello.

“He said they were all really excited about it and that George is already opening his presents. He thought it was quite funny. That’s kids for you, even the ones that are princes!”

This Christmas habit has appeared to be hereditary as Princess Diana, Prince George’s late grandmother, once admitted to doing this herself as a young child in letters she had written which were auctioned off in 2010.

Diana wrote to her personal beautician, Janet Filderman, stating that she could never keep a parcel’s wrapping intact until “the big day”.

“I rushed to open your Christmas present, which I thought was quite good considering the 25th is actually two weeks away!!” Diana wrote on December 14th 1985.

Diana also referred to Prince William, who was three years old, in the letters.

“I could not resist opening my present, as a parcel of any shape or form has ever been safe with me and I fear that William has also picked up this dreadful habit from his mother, as I find wrapping paper undone in the most extraordinary places!”

At least Prince George wasn’t the first, and probably won’t be the last, to inherit this “dreadful” habit.
