The bizarre tradition the Queen will make Duchess Meghan and her mum do on Christmas Day

Next month, Duchess Meghan will enjoy her first Christmas as an official member of the Royal Family with her mum Doria Ragland.

And according to a royal expert, both guests will partake in a very bizarre royal tradition while they are away at Sandringham House.

Royal expert and editor of Majesty magazine, Ingrid Stewart, claims that each member of the family, including the former actress’ husband Prince Harry, is weighed before and after they devour their traditional Christmas dinner, reported The Sun.

Ingrid revealed that the Queen asks each of her guests to “weigh themselves” using a pair of antique scales when they first arrive at the estate in Norfolk for the Christmas period.

The unusual ritual was created to ensure that the monarch’s guests are having a great time and are “well fed”.

The tradition, which applies to all members of the royal clan, dates back to King Edward VII’s reign in the early 1900s.

Although the rules have been bent to allow Doria to join the family for the holidays, the sacred tradition means both Meghan and her mum will be weighed when they arrive and leave the residence.

On Christmas Day, the royals will enjoy a traditional turkey dinner at lunchtime after attending two church services together in the morning.

After walking off their meal on the grounds of the Sandringham estate, they will then indulge in an afternoon tea spread, which features a “gargantuan iced cake”.

In the evening, the family enjoy a candlelit dinner in the dining room.

For the Christmas Day meals, guests are expected to “enter the dining room in order of seniority”.

Like most families, “paper hats are donned, but not by the Queen”.
