Man legally named Santa Claus joins Alaska’s city council

We couldn’t make this up if we tried: a man whose legal name is Santa Claus has just been elected to council in Alaska’s chilly North Pole.

Santa Claus, formerly known as Thomas Patrick O’Connor, acts as the town’s “Santa Claus” for the town’s young children, and served as president of the North Pole’s chamber of commerce.

Claus campaigned to his nearly 300,000 Facebook followers, and upon winning, posted the following grateful message: "My thanks to everyone who voted for me, the news media that covered my campaign, and all who supported my run for office via social media."

It looks like Santa Claus is coming to… council.
