Roger Federer cops cheeky tennis sledge from his own kids

Roger Federer has revealed that his own children sledged him after he was awarded Swiss Sportsman of the Year over the weekend.

The tennis legend, who is currently ranked world number 2 after a remarkable 2017 season that saw him snare the Australian Open and Wimbledon crowns, joked in his acceptance speech that his kids were quick to bring him down to earth.

"After dinner my kids asked me where I was going,” Federer said.

“I told them there is this awards gala where I could win a prize.

“Then they said: ‘But isn’t Rafa [Rafael Nadal] number 1?!'”

Federer laughed as he revealed his kids’ cheeky comment, cuing more laughter from the crowd.

Federer beat cross-country cyclist Nino Schurter and alpine ski racer Beat Feuz to win the award for a seventh time.

He has four children – twin girls Myla and Charlene, eight, and twin boys Lenny and Leo, three – with wife Mirka.
