Queen Mary 2 and Queen Victoria rendezvous on Sydney Harbour

The royal rendezvous led to fireworks on Thursday night when two majestic maritime madams met on the Harbour.

The Queen Mary 2 and her younger sister Queen Victoria had, for the first time, spent the day together in Sydney. As QM2 sailed past her sister ship on her way to Sydney Heads, fireworks exploded on Thursday night to mark the historic meeting.

To add to the royal occasion, a special photo exhibition celebrating the cruise line’s 175th anniversary opened on the western broadwalk of the Sydney Opera House, featuring many never before seen images of its world famous fleet.

The two Cunard queens — with more than 6700 passengers and crew between them — were in Sydney towards the end of busy cruise season that saw more than 10,000 international cruise ship tourists descend on Sydney.
