Queen releases emotional statement before Trooping the Colour

Prior to the Trooping the Colour 2017, Queen Elizabeth released an emotional message to the country.

The Queen paid tribute to the three horrific tragedies the country has suffered in just a few weeks.

Her Majesty said, “Today is traditionally a day of celebration. This year, however, it is difficult to escape a very sombre national mood. In recent months, the country has witnessed a succession of terrible tragedies."

"As a nation, we continue to reflect and pray for all those who have been directly affected by these events. During recent visits in Manchester and London, I have been profoundly struck by the immediate inclination of people throughout the country to offer comfort and support to those in desperate need."

"Put to the test, the United Kingdom has been resolute in the face of adversity. United in our sadness, we are equally determined, without fear or favour, to support all those rebuilding lives so horribly affected by injury and loss. ELIZABETH R," the statement concluded.

Before the Trooping the Colour, The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh led a national minute of silence outside Buckingham Palace.

The Royal Family have met with victims and volunteers in the Manchester attack, the London Bridge attack and Grenfell Tower fire.

Many commentators have said they are pleased the Queen referenced the sombre mood of the country during this time.

"Our majesty has always been a rock for this country, one of which is the envy of the world. I wish to convey my sincerest thanks for her continuing work and wishing a happy birthday," one person wrote.

"Well said your Majesty. Happy Birthday. Thank you for taking the time to visit the people who have lost everything and showing that whilst the government doesn't seem to care our head of state does," another added.

On Friday, Queen Elizabeth and Prince William made a surprise visit to a makeshift relief centre for Grenfell Tower fire victims in London.

The Royals were applauded as they arrived at the Westway Sports Centre, a central point for volunteers, displaced people and relatives of the missing.

The pair spent 45 minutes talking to first responders, local residents and community representatives. They also met with volunteers in front of tables filled with donated goods.
