Princess Charlotte baptised in low-key ceremony
Nine-week-old Princess Charlotte was christened over the weekend in a low-key ceremony held in the church of St Mary Magdalene. Crowds waited outside the 16th century church, which sits on the grounds of the country estate of Queen Elizabeth II.
Just 21 guests were at the ceremony, including the Queen herself, and Prince Phillip, as well as Princess Catherine’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton. The guest of honour arrived in a vintage pram used by the Queen for her own children.
The baptism was performed by Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, using an ornate silver gilt Lily Font that is part of the crown jewels. William and Kate revealed that Charlotte would have five godparents, including William’s cousin Laura Fellowes, and Kate’s cousin Adam Middleton. Friends of the parents, Sophie Carter, James Meade, and Thomas van Straubenzee were also named godparents to the young princess.
We don’t know about you, but being godparent to a princess sounds like a lot of responsibility to us. Unless it’s the role of fairy godmother, in which case it would probably involve a lot of fun, singing, and magic. We’d definitely be up for that.
