Prince Harry takes Meghan Markle to meet the Queen

Prince Harry has reportedly taken Meghan Markle to meet the Queen for tea, prompting speculation that the couple will soon announce their engagement.

It is believed the meeting with the Queen took place last week at Buckingham Palace.

The couple travelled to the palace in a car with blacked out windows and visited Queen Elizabeth II in her private sitting room for an informal tea.

The Queen’s afternoon tea is a daily 5pm ritual that is said to be the Queen’s favourite part of the day, where she nibbles on sandwiches, fruit or cake and drinks her tea.

This meeting follows the announcement that the 36-year-old American actress quit her job on popular television show Suits, which some say is in preparation for her move to London to take up royal life.

Kensington Palace refused to comment on the meeting saying they have “refrained from commenting on all previous stories about Prince Harry introducing Meghan Markle to members of the Royal Family.”

Many royal speculators believe Harry will hold off from announcing the engagement until the Queen and Prince Philip celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary in November, so the celebrations aren’t overshadowed.

Last month, Harry and Meghan made their first official public appearance together at Prince Harry’s Invictus Games in Toronto where they sat side-by-side and held hands throughout the day.

Recently, Meghan opened up to Vanity Fair about their relationship.

“I can tell you that at the end of the day I think it’s really simple,” she said about the publicity their relationship had attracted. “We’re two people who are really happy and in love. We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception. Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship.”

She also hinted at the future and a public life together, explaining that they were enjoying their privacy while they had it. “We’re a couple,” she explains. “We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time. This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story.”
