Listening to music while driving linked to car accidents

Ben-Gurion University’s Director of Music Psychology, Professor Warren Brodsky, has published a new book outlining the dangerous connection between driving, music, and emotion. According to Brodsky, the emotional impact of a song can be a strong determining factor as to whether you make it home alive while driving.

“The car is the only place in the world you can die just because you’re listening to the wrong kind of music,” Brodsky claimed to news site, Haaretz.

His logic is this: a person’s emotional connection to a song is a form of distracted driving. Whether happy, angry or sad, a song’s emotional impact can impact the quality of your concentration. As distracted driving is one of the top five causes of road accidents, this information is worth paying attention to.

In addition to bringing this connection to light, Brodsky also proposed a hypothetical solution: the professor wishes to one day implement a system into cars that would change the song upon sensing an intense emotional reaction between the driver and the music playing.
