The things our mothers taught us about style that are actually true

Every mother tells her daughter these style lessons at some point, and they still ring true today.

1. “Always wear good underwear – you never know what could happen.”

We’ve heard reasoning anywhere from a possible encounter with a male or a car accident. Either way, nice clean underwear are a must… for confidence and hygienic purposes.

2. “Pull your pants up!”

Mothers are constantly telling their children of both genders to pull up their pants. Luckily for us, the high-waisted jean trend is back in full swing.

3. “Learn to walk in heels.”

Nothing ruins an outfit like a woman who can’t pull off the amazing pair of heels she just splurged on. Knowing how to walk in them is an absolute must.

4. “Everyone needs a LBD.”

A little black dress is timeless and can be dressed up or down according to event. When in doubt, it’s hard to go wrong with an LBD.

5. “Don’t show too much skin.”

There is magic to leaving something to the imagination. When you wear a revealing top, cover your legs. When you wear a short skirt, cover your top. It’s all about balance and mystery.

6. “Be yourself.”

Everyone looks best when they wear what feels right to them, whether that’s over the top statement pieces or muted neutrals. If you’re comfortable and confident, you can pull of almost anything.
