Look at them now: Princess Mary's kids are so grown up!

Queen Margrethe may be turning 79 on April 17, but the head of the Danish monarch proved she’s still young at heart.

Accompanied by her son Crown Prince Frederik, daughter-in-law Crown Princess Mary and their four children, the royal took part in the joyous occasion by waving to crowds that gathered around the palace.

This is the second birthday she has celebrated after her husband of 50 years, Prince Henrik’s death.

Her happiness was infectious, as she sang alongside her eight-year-old granddaughter Princess Josephine.

During the balcony appearance, Queen Margrethe was presented with a bouquet of flowers from Princess Isabella, 11, which featured the Danish flag.

The family all wore their best outfits for the occasion, with the Queen opting for a grey skirt suit, a bright blue blouse and a brown wool coat.

Her daughter-in-law Princess Mary, 47, wore an emerald green belted dress with a white pattern which she paired with a green hued coat.

She wore her hair out, in loose waves while her mother-in-law sported a neat up-do.

The men of the family, Prince Frederik and his sons Prince Christian and Prince Vincent, all wore wool blazers and Princess Isabella and Josephine chose to go with check wool coats.

Queen Margrethe ascended the throne in January 1972 at the age of 31, taking the place of the late King Frederik IX.
