Karl Stefanovic to make his TV comeback after being axed from Today

Karl Stefanovic is set to return to Channel 9, months after being axed from the Today show.

Stefanovic, who co-hosted the Today show for 14 years before stepping off in December, will continue filming This Time Next Year later this month.

The 43-year-old, who is still under contract with Channel 9, filmed the first half of the series last year when he met with people who pledged to change their lives in 12 months.

He will be interviewing the participants to discuss their journey over the past year in a taping session at Fox Studios in Sydney from February 26, according to the Daily Telegraph.

At the end of last year, Stefanovic along with brother Peter Stefanovic and wife Sylvia Jeffreys were cut from the morning show after a recording revealed the brothers had been complaining about the network’s management and co-host Georgie Gardner in an Uber.

Following Stefanovic’s departure, the Today show was revamped in January with Georgie Gardner and Deborah Knight as the co-hosts alongside newsreader Tom Steinfort, sports reporter Tony Jones and entertainment reporter Brooke Boney.

Post-Stefanovic Today show has been struggling to pull audiences. Earlier this month, Today managed to earn only 177,000 metro viewers, falling further behind Channel 7’s Sunrise which gained 300,000 metro viewers on the same day.
