5 things you didn’t know about Kurt Russell

Kurt Russell has stayed relevant in Hollywood for over four decades. The 66-year-old star is renowned for roles in films such as Overboard, Silkwood and Escape from New York. Here are five interesting facts about this actor.

1. How he started his climb to fame

Kurt was born in Springfield, Massachusetts and is the son of actor Bing Russell and dancer Louise Julia (Crone) Russell. Kurt’s first roles were in television series as a child including the lead role in The Travels of Jamie McPheeters.

2. Prestigious awards

Kurt was nominated for a Golden Globe in 1984 for best supporting actor in Silkwood. He was also nominated for an Emmy Award in 1979 for his lead role in Elvis. In 2015 the cast of The Hateful Eight won a Hollywood Film Award for Ensemble of the Year.

3. Kurt is a FAA licensed private pilot

Kurt is licensed to fly small planes and had seven years of aerobatic flight training. In an interview with Airport Journals Kurt said, “Flying has taught me more about who I really am than anything I’ve ever done. I take very calculated risks. I’ve done too many stunts on too many movies and television shows to be a daredevil. I learned a long time ago that if you want to do something you enjoy, you want to do it again.”

4. When he first met Goldie Hawn

Kurt and Russel met when he was 16 and she was 21 on the set of the 1968 film The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band. In 1983 they also starred together in Swing Shift and in real life bother parties were finalising divorces from their previous partners. Three years later, they had their first son together, Wyatt.

5. Why Kurt and Goldie Hawn didn’t get married

Hawn believes that if the pair had gotten married they would have been divorced by now. “I would have been long divorced if I’d been married,” Hawn said in an interview on the British show Loose Women. “Marriage is an interesting psychological thing. If you need to feel bound to someone, then it’s important to be married. If you have independence, if you have enough money and sense of independence and you like your independence, there’s something psychological about not being married because it gives you the freedom to make decisions one way or the other. For me, I chose to stay, Kurt chose to stay, and we like the choice.”
