Grant Denyer confirms the end of Family Feud

Grant Denyer has confirmed that Family Feud will be wrapping up soon.

Rumours surfaced on the weekend that the show would be ending but Denyer made an official announcement on his radio show 2DayFM Breakfast with Em, Grant & Ed this morning.

“It’s obviously been a huge success for myself and for Ten for four years,” Denyer said. “We only thought we’d get two years out of it so it was really lovely to stretch it to four.”

Denyer will have hosted a whopping 1,200 episodes of the show when it stops airing on TV and suggested one of the reasons for the game show’s demise is because Channel 10 thrashed the show.

“We’re probably guilty, if anything, of driving it into the ground a little bit too early,” he said on radio.

“Six days a week, twice a day, plus All Star episodes, we might have squeezed that lemon a little bit too much.”

Denyer said he was grateful to host Family Feud, crediting the show for breathing life back into his TV career.

“It came along at a time when I was looking for something new ... and it kind of rebirthed me,” he said.

“It obviously reinvigorated that 6pm timeslot [on Channel 10] which was dead for them for about five years.”

However, Denyer won’t disappear from our TV screens with the 40-year-old teasing some “big new projects” on the horizon, which he described as “bright, shiny, new and exciting”.

As Family Feud comes to an end (for yet another time), we look back at the previous iterations of the game show and the hosts.

Need a reminder? Channel Ten is the third network Family Feud has appeared on. It ran on Nine from 1977 to 1984 and on Seven from 1989 to 1996, with previous hosts including Tony Barber, Daryl Somers, Rob Brough and John Deeks.

And who can forget the brief spinoff version Bert’s Family Feud, revived by Channel 10 and hosted by Aussie TV icon Bert Newton. It ran from 2006 and 2007.
