Great-grandmother, who is nearly 100, told she’s pregnant

Left baffled, great grandmother Doris Ayling – who is nearly 100 – received a letter from a hospital following an appointment notifying her that she was pregnant.

At the recent hospital visit a confused Doris had an antenatal appointment and was told to provide a urine sample.

Doris, of Bognor Regis, West Sussex, said: “I’m almost 100 so how can I be expecting?

“I have three children and 20 grandchildren — but I haven’t been pregnant for 70 years.”

The mum of three says her correct date of birth was on the letter from Fareham Community Hospital in Hampshire – but it was obviously a mistake.

A hospital trust spokesman said: “It was a rare administrative error and we have apologised for any unnecessary anxiety this may have caused.”

Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust admitted the blunder and apologised to her son Brian, 76.

Brian said: “It’s very amusing. She’s got enjoyment out of it and everyone had a good laugh. It’s just one of those things.”
