More than 60 elephants stop at hotel pool for a drink

Guests at a luxury South African resort got more than their money’s worth earlier this month when a group of around 60 elephants descended on their private swimming pool to grab a drink.

Around 11am, a herd of elephants emerged from the thick woodland area that surrounds the Homestead – at the exclusive Phinda Private Game Reserve in KwaZulu-Natal. The appearance of the elephants is a usual sight for the Homestead, as the animals regularly drink from the nearby watering hole.

But with the sudden arrival of several other herds, the watering hole was soon reduced to mud and the elephants began to take turns drinking from the Homestead’s private swimming pool. The animals spent over three hours socialising, drinking, and wallowing in the mud before disappearing back into the bush.
