Connie Johnson raises $2 million in selfless “last hurrah”

Actor Samuel Johnson and his sister Connie have raised $2 million to make a real difference in the fight against cancer as part of their Big Heart Project in Canberra.

Connie, who after seven years battling cancer made the difficult choice to stop treatment so she could spend her remaining days with her partner and two young boys, has raised over $4.5 million with her Gold Logie-winning brother.

The Big Heart Project gave this tally a massive boost. As part of the project, members of the public were encouraged to help build a giant heart consisting of 5 cent coins at Lyneham Netball Courts in Canberra. The Johnsons has hoped to raise at least $1 million, but by late Wednesday night the big heart had hit $2 million in value.

Connie and Samuel had spoken on The Project earlier that evening as the figure continued to grow and encouraged any last-minute supporters to contribute.

Samuel said, “We might double down! The night’s still early! If there is a chance... we will double this down and make it a $2 million heart, which suits me. Cancer needs lots of millions.”

Connie described the support as “incredible”.

She said, “I just love it! There is so much love here, so much passion. So much hope.”
