Boy tragically dies despite best efforts of Prince William and his team

A 17-year-old boy, Robbie Lea, has tragically drowned in a lake despite the best efforts by Prince William and his air ambulance emergency team to save him.

The Duke of Cambridge, who flies helicopters for East Anglian Air Ambulance, was part of the crew who tried to rescue the young man, who struggled in the water at Lee Valley Park in Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.

Videos from the rescue operation show Prince William landing the helicopter.

An eyewitness said: "We could see it was landing so ran over to see what was going on. Little did we expect to see Prince William himself flying the helicopter.

"It was a very surreal moment when he left the helicopter to help with the search and rescue, he had no visible guards or protection.

"He arrived in an East Anglia Air Ambulance with one other co-pilot."

Police pronounced Robbie’s body dead at the scene.

Our thoughts are with his family.
