According to a new study your birth month can affect your health

A study from Columbia University claims to have uncovered a link between your month of birth and the likelihood of disease during your life. Software was created that examined New York City medical databases to look for links between birth and medical records. Their results were somewhat surprising.

According to the researchers, people born in May had the lowest disease risk, while people born in October had the highest. “Seasonally dependent early development mechanisms may play a role in increasing lifetime risk of disease,” the researchers wrote in the Journal of American Medical Informatics Association.

The research confirmed 39 links that had previously been reported in medical literature. The aim is to now replicate the study in other locations across the U.S. and internationally to see how results vary with the change of seasonal and environmental factors.

Study author, Dr Nicholas Tatonetti noted, “It’s important not to get overly nervous about these results because even though we found significant associations, the overall disease risk is not that great. The risk related to birth month is relatively minor when compared to more influential variables like diet and exercise.”
