Meet the latest addition to Taronga Zoo: Julio, a baby Bolivian squirrel monkey

Meet Julio, the baby squirrel monkey, who has become Taronga Zoo’s latest addition to its group of Bolivian squirrel monkeys.

At just a few weeks old, Julio clings tightly to his mum, Lena, as she jumps from branch to branch at the Sydney zoo.

The zookeepers say mother and son are doing well and baby Julio is quickly learning to climb up trees.

“He has already been seen climbing on ropes by himself with all four legs, with just his tail holding on to mum,” said primate keeper Suzie Lemon.

“In the next few weeks, we’ll see other females start to carry him around and nanny him a bit, then he'll slowly start to explore on his own.”
