Aussie cat found in Ireland – but how did it get there?
Cats are notoriously independent animals, but this adventurous feline has taken things to a new level, travelling across the contents.
An Australian tabby cat named Ozzie was recently found across the globe in Northern Ireland, an impressive 17,000km away from his original home of Sydney, Australia.
The veteran cat, discovered by vets to be an astounding 25 years old, was found in Laurelvale, Ireland, after making a London visit in 2004, where he was previously recorded as a stray. Cats protection co-ordinator, Gillian McMullen found the cat as a result of a citizen’s phone call, which she expanded upon, “I responded to a call from a member of the public who was concerned about a poorly stray cat that had been hanging around her garden for several days.”
“I took it to Willow Veterinary Clinic on the Mahon Road, Portadown, where we discovered it was microchipped and this is where the mystery begins,” said McMullen.
From there Ozzie’s microchip revealed that his real name was Tigger and that he was born in 1989, originating from Sydney, where the microchip was first placed.
“The cat had originally been microchipped in Australia!”
Amagh Cat Protection is now attempting to locate Ozzie’s original owners.
