Andrew O’Keefe, former TV presenter, has been arrested over the alleged assault of a woman.

Police report the violent incident took place at a Kent Street apartment in Sydney on Tuesday afternoon.

O’Keefe has been accused of grabbing a 38-year-old woman by the throat, pushing her to
the ground and punching her. “A verbal argument ensued between the pair, before the man allegedly assaulted the woman,” a police spokesperson said.

“The man allegedly assaulted the woman a second time – punching and kicking her – before she left the unit.”

A police complaint was made on Wednesday and Sydney City Police Area Command officers opened an investigation.

Andrew was arrested early Thursday morning and is expected to be charged. He will appear in court late on Thursday.

The former Weekend Sunrise host left Channel 7 in February last year, with his contract
having expired the previous year with no plans to renew.

O’Keefe was a familiar face at Channel 7 for 17 years and appeared on a number of different programs on the network. He was awarded an Order of Australia medal in 2017 for “significant service to the broadcast media as a television presenter, and to social welfare and charitable organisations”.

O’Keefe was also an ambassador for the White Ribbon, an anti-domestic violence organisation.
