92-year-old tennis ace hits a winner on seniors tour

The Australian Open might have captured our attention, but that’s not the only tennis in town.

With three hundred tennis players headed to the national senior’s tournament in Shepparton we take a look at the oldest competitor registered in the tournament, Henry Young.

At 92-years-old Mr Young is beating players 10 years younger than him and still enjoying the game he has developed a passion for, despite two knee replacements and a hip replacement.

The great-grandfather plays club tennis three or four times a week and is a regular at competitions all around Australia. He travels mostly at his own expense and treats each trip like a holiday.

However, he also is determined to stay active.

"No one discourages me, everyone hopes I'll keep on playing, including my wife. It keeps you young," he says. "As you get older, it's very easy to dream up excuses to stop playing, and then you just vegetate.”

“The way to keep young is to keep active, and when you have retired, there's no reason at all why you can't be active. It just makes so much sense. Look at me, I'm fine and the only reason I'm fine is that I play tennis, long may it last."
