Ice-cream is this 108-year-old’s secret to longevity

It’s not an apple a day that keeps the doctor away, but a bowl of ice cream a day. At least that’s the case for Virginia Davis, who celebrated her 108th birthday last Friday.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Davis is honestly surprised she’s lived this long. She told the newspaper that her nightly routine is a bowl of soup for dinner, followed by a bowl of her favourite Neapolitan ice-cream before bed.

“Maybe that's her secret,” Davis’s caregiver, Rebecca Montalban, told The Huffington Post. "She finishes one gallon [3.8 litres] in a week.”

Davis also credits her longevity to neither drinking nor smoking, as well as her decades of work.

"I worked until I was 90," Davis told The Huffington Post. "Work, I think, is good for anybody."

Montalban, who has cared for Davis for the last three years, says that it was only until last year Davis was able to walk on her own and exercised daily.

"She's very energetic and she still loves to read the newspaper and magazines. She loves going to social gatherings and seminars until now," Montalban said.
