These 4 bad habits could be affecting your relationship

All of us have our own quirks and habits – sometimes that’s what attracts you to someone in the first place.

But over time, some of the things that you used to love about your partner (and vice versa) can wind up driving you mad.

These are some of the most common habits that can put a strain on a relationship.

1. Doing everything together

Having your own friendships and interests is a healthy part of a relationship.  You don’t want to rely solely on your partner for your happiness and social life. Spending time apart also gives you something fun to talk about when you get home!

2. Not making plans

It’s easy to get stuck in a rut of staying home to drink wine and watch DVDs, but this can lead to boredom down the track. Try to make time to make plans for the future, whether it’s a weekend away or planning a small renovation. Having things to look forward to together is a positive way to keep a relationship strong.

3. Forgetting to schedule intimacy

Speaking of making plans, it’s important to keep intimacy alive in your relationship. For some couples, spontaneity is key, but for many, taking a moment to schedule it into your week can really help sex on the menu. It’s easy to fall into a habit of not going to bed at the same time. Why not dedicate a certain night of the week to an early night?

4. Making assumptions

Communication is a big part of any partnership, but often over the years we can do a lot more ‘assuming’ than actual talking. For instance, you might assume that because your partner has always looked after paying the bills or cooking the meals that they are happy to keep doing it forever. Keep the lines of communication open and check in every now and then to see that both of you are happy with the way things are in terms of the division of labour.

How do you keep things fresh and lively in your relationship? We would love to hear your ideas in the comments.
