Terri Irwin’s heartfelt tribute to Steve

Ten years have passed since the shocking death of Aussie icon and wildlife conservationist Steve Irwin, but wife Terri appears to be more in love than ever. The 53-year-old mum-of-two took to Twitter to share a goofy yet sweet photo of the couple to celebrate what would have been their 25th anniversary.

The duo met in October 1991, when Terri visited a small reptile park during a trip to Australia. She first laid eyes on Steve while watching a show there and instantly knew it was love.

“I was absolutely floored. That was it. This man was a real-life hero,” she told Barbara Walters in 2006. “I fell then and there, love at first sight, not a problem. I said to my friend, ‘I got to meet this guy.’”

And she did just that, asking for a picture before the pair started chatting. “He was so passionate and honest […] and there he just bared himself to me as if we’d known each other forever.”

Six months later, they were married. In the years to come, the lovebirds would welcome Bindi and Robert into the world and together, the Irwins found international fame as stars of The Crocodile Hunter.

Despite a decade passing since his death, Terri confesses she has no desire to begin dating yet. “I haven’t dated anyone in the 10 years since we lost Steve just because I feel a connection still with Steve,” she told Access Hollywood. “He’s very special to me and continues to be.”
