Meghan Markle opens up in new interview

Meghan Markle’s romance with Prince Harry seems like a modern-day fairytale, but the TV star has revealed in a candid new interview that her life hasn’t always been so happy.

Speaking to Pride magazine, Meghan, currently celebrating her 36th birthday in Botswana with Prince Harry, opened up about the crushing racism she was exposed to as an “ethnically ambiguous” child, born to an African-American mother and a Caucasian father.

The Suits actress revealed she often overheard racist jokes from people who didn’t realise she was in fact half-black, recalling the heartbreaking moment she heard her mother, Doria, referred to using the N-word.

“I don’t care if I’m fair-skinned and I don’t care what it is, that’s who I am and that’s my family,” she explained. “My hope is for the world to get to a place where it’s colour blind.”

Meanwhile, back in the UK, bookies have cut the odds of Harry proposing to Meghan while on holiday to 6/4. Given that Prince William popped the question to Kate while holidaying in Kenya, it’s clear the African continent is a favourite romantic destination for the young royals.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle arrive in Botswana.

“It’s a case of when and not if Harry pops the question and royal punters are convinced it will be while the happy couple are on holiday,” a spokesperson for betting company Ladbrokes told the Sunday Express.
