"I do, quickly": Rush on weddings before Stage 4 bans begin

Couples in Melbourne are rushing to tie the knot before a ban on weddings comes into effect under Stage 4 COVID-19 restrictions in just two days.

From Thursday, weddings will not be allowed for six weeks in metropolitan Melbourne and residents will not be permitted to travel to other parts of Victoria for a ceremony.

But some couples are not planning to wait.

One celebrant is se tot conduct 25 weddings in just three days to beat the new rules.

Su Wong and Nathan Wilkinson have put off their wedding four times since coronavirus hit the state and decided to do it “rain, hail or COVID,” this time.

“It’s definitely stressful trying to do it in three days. There’s a rush to get the cake, the flowers, the hair done,” Wong said.

The pair will wear masks on their big day.
