Hugh Sheridan splits from fiance after eight-month engagement

In a heartfelt birthday post on Instagram, Packed to the Rafters star Hugh Sheridan announced they had split from their fiance of eight months, Kurt Roberts.

The post, made to celebrate Roberts’ birthday, is reflective and heartfelt, with Sheridan speculating that having “first public relationship, that public, that fast, might’ve been too much pressure on us”, while also taking “full responsibility” for their working hours.

Sheridan wrote, “Today, I should’ve been landing in a couple of hours in Sydney to surprise my best friend. Happy Birthday to one of the most beautiful people on earth inside and out @kurtroberts_ you are an angel and I wish you all to the love and happiness you deserve.

“As you know, a year ago I came out as a human, a two weeks; later got cancelled, then in the darkness found light in Kurt. I did a horrific job when I proposed to you on the couch at our home… So I tried to make up for it and surprised someone who deserved better.

“In retrospect, having a first public relationship, that public, that fast, might’ve been too much pressure on us. Maybe it was COVID or quarantines or us working to hard (I take the blame for full responsibility for the working hours), maybe it’s dads death or all the above. The point is Kurt is incredibly kind, someone who is earnestly caring and helped me through a very tough time.

“I didn’t think it would be right to not say Happy Birthday to an amazing and caring human, but also not be false cause whether it’s right or wrong; transparency is what I promised you all.

“For now we didn’t make it, but we tried very, very hard, I’m so sorry for us that it wasn’t easy and I’m sorry for the added pressure. Lots learned, the heartache is heavy, but zero regrets for the greatest love. Bless you dear Kurt you beautiful human and thank God for birthday today, without you I wouldn’t be. X love shoosie.”

The couple announced their engagement in March after dating for three months, with Sheridan proposing on stage during the first night of the Adelaide Fringe Festival.

In May, Sheridan’s dad Denis died of cancer at the age of 74, and the following month, Sheridan came out as non-binary in an Instagram post. In the post, Sheridan wrote, ““I AM still a human (non binary/bi/me/Hughman) but I’m in a monogamous relationship with another human, who I love.

“I don’t accept a label cause it limits me … if you want it; take it. I chose zero labels for no other reason except the exclusion, limitations, separation, I believe are all one, deeeeep down. & … who know? why chose?!! Be you. Be true. Be free: to BE, to JUST BE.. you, a human, same as me.”
