Barry Du Bois shares the important life lessons his father taught him

Barry Du Bois has revealed the greatest lessons his father ever taught him, important life lessons that have helped him fight the hardest battle of his life: cancer.

The Living Room presenter announced in October last year that after six years his cancer has returned for a second time.

Since then, the father-of-two has undergone a bone marrow retrieval, stem cell transplant and chemo that saw him in isolation for 21 days at St Vincent’s Hospital.

It’s been a gruelling several months for Barry, but his positivity in the face of such hardship has inspired countless fans on his Facebook page, where he shares updates on his cancer journey.

But Barry attributes his fighting attitude to a loving upbringing and important lessons that his dad taught him a long time ago.

“There are lessons I learned when growing up that have helped me enormously,” he told tendaily.

“He taught me everything. He taught me not to be scared, to be prepared for a fight. But not to be scared.”

Today, it’s part of his DNA, Barry says. And while he’s angry about his health, he refuses to be cowered by it.

“I was angry. Yes, I suppose I was also scared … but there’s no return on being scared. There’s no return on that investment. So I refuse to invest in it,” he says.
