Anthony Albanese denies new romance rumours with Labor staffer

Anthony Albanese has denied new romance rumours with a Labor staffer.

The new Labor leader, who split up with his partner of 30 years Carmel Tebbutt in January this year, was recently seen with a female staffer in his arms in Melbourne.

However, Albanese told The Australian’s Margin Call he is “nothing more” than friends with the woman, who is currently working in the Victorian government.

Earlier this year, the leader of the Opposition announced his separation from his wife and former NSW deputy premier, Tebbutt.

“I am deeply saddened that my relationship of over 30 years with Carmel Tebbutt has ended in separation,” Albanese said in a statement.

“We will continue to share parenting responsibilities of our 18-year-old son Nathan, who has successfully completed his HSC and has developed into an outstanding young man who we are both proud of.

“There are no third parties involved.”

In a press conference marking his election to Labor leadership on Monday, Albanese thanked Tebbutt in his speech.

“To my partner of 30 years, Carmel Tebbutt, I thank you for your love, your support and your advice over all of those years,” he said.

“Our relationship has changed, but I have nothing but best wishes for her future. We have raised a wonderful young son in Nathan.”

Tebbutt retired from politics in 2015 after serving more than nine years in the NSW parliament.
