Snakes finds a new home in Queensland family’s Christmas tree
A green tree snake was feeling festive when it decided to make itself at home in a Cairns family’s Christmas tree.
Resident Jessica Alexandra discovered the unusual Christmas decoration in her large white tree after putting it up yesterday morning.
“My four-year-old spotted it — a little tree snake, about a metre long, that wrapped itself around the Christmas tree,” she said.
“We had only just put the tree up.
“We don’t know how it got in, but it gave us a good laugh.”
Jessica contacted a snake catcher to remove the reptile, who released it back into the wild.
Green tree snakes are non-venomous but can grow up to 2m long.
Jessica said the snake gave the family quite a fright.
“We’ve only just moved here from the Tablelands, so weren’t really expecting to find a snake inside.
“We can handle it outside.
“But it gave me a bit of a fright, because the kids were sitting right under it, about a metre away from it.
“It must have thought it was a real tree.”
