Sydney mum finds maggots in Woolworths BBQ chicken

A Sydney mother has made a stomach-turning discovery, after finding maggots in the BBQ chicken she has just purchased for her children from Woolworths.

Rejane Ga Silva bought the chicken from a Woolies outlet in Revesby, NSW.

“We often buy the Woolworths BBQ chicken — basically once a week,” she told 7 News.

“It makes things easier like if we’re busy with work — we’ve never had a problem but I don’t know if I’ll buy it again now.”

Ms Ga Silva was pulling the chicken apart for her seven-year-old daughter Sophia, and 15-year-old stepson Palo, when she noticed the tiny larvae wriggling over the bench.

“I saw some things moving inside and I was just disgusted, I don’t know how else to describe it,” she said.

“I don’t know if he (Palo) is going to get sick now,” she said. “I have to take him to hospital or the doctors now and see if he will have a reaction.”

Woolworths reportedly provided a full refund to Ms Ga Silva and has advised any customer has a complaint they should contact the supermarket directly.

“We take customer concerns and feedback on our products seriously. We encourage all customers with concerns to contact the store of purchase directly or our customer hub on 1300 767 969,” said a Woolworths spokesman.
