Greek gyros

Gyros are a delicious Greek combination of beef and lamb wrapped in a pita, and they can easily be made at home.

Serves: 10

Ingredients:

Method:

  1. In a large bowl, combine and mix all ingredients.
  2. Knead heavily for 10 minutes.
  3. Place meat on wax paper with a second sheet on top. Use a rolling pin to flatten into a rectangle roughly seven-cm thick. Straighten edges.
  4. Preheat oven to 175°C.
  5. Bake loaf for one hour. You can alternatively grill the loaf, turning often.
  6. Let cool and slice into very thin slices.
  7. Serve on a pita topped with tomatoes, lettuce, red onion, crumbled feta, and tzatziki sauce.
