Why Duchess Kate hasn't met Pippa's baby yet

On Monday, Duchess Kate’s younger sister Pippa Middleton gave birth to her first child at St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington.

Kate’s other sibling, James Middleton, was quick to visit his new nephew, however, the Duchess of Cambridge was nowhere to be seen.

While royal reporter Richard Palmer said Prince William and Kate were “thrilled” for Pippa and her husband James Matthews, it is likely the royals will be unable to visit their family while they remain in the Lindo Wing at the hospital.

Kensington Palace confirmed that Kate’s schedule was unfortunately already booked on Tuesday as she took part in an unannounced charity engagement.

The court circular, which documents the engagements of the royal family, explained what the meeting was about.

“The Duchess of Cambridge this morning held a meeting of experts convened by the Royal Foundation of The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to inform Her Royal Highness’s charitable ‘Early Years’ initiative,” it said.

According to the Express, Kate will wait until Pippa comes home to meet her new nephew in order to avoid a media circus.

Pippa also didn’t visit Kate in hospital after she gave birth to any of her three children.

Although the sisters share a close relationship and both acted as each other’s matron’s of honour, the pair choose to catch up behind closed doors, rarely being seen together in public.

Pippa’s baby boy was born on Monday at 1.58 pm after a three-hour labour, weighing 3.88kg.

The newborn is the cousin of future king Prince George, 5, his sister Princess Charlotte, 3, and their baby brother Prince Louis, who is five months old.
