Prince Harry and Meghan’s adorable new dog's name is a tribute to Australia

Last week, it was confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex adopted a black Labrador.

The royal couple, who married on May 19, welcomed the newest addition to their family into their Kensington Palace home.

Now, royal biographer Sally Bedell Smith has confirmed to The Sun that the name of their dog is ‘Oz’.

The pet is reportedly settling nicely into the couple’s Nottingham Cottage inside the palace.

A source said: “The dog is already happily ensconced at their cottage."

“Like the Sussexes, the dog will divide its time between the palace and their country home in the Cotswolds.”

Meghan is a proud dog-lover and was devastated last year when she had to leave her Labrador-German Shepherd, Bogart, in Toronto when she moved to England.

While she was able to bring her beagle named Guy with her, Bogart was reportedly too old to make the long plane journey.

Bogart was then entrusted to one of Meghan’s close friends, to look after him while Meghan fulfils her royal duties on the other side of the world.

It is likely Oz is a rescue dog just like Meghan’s first two dogs, who she discovered in a rescue centre in Los Angeles.

There is no doubt that Oz will be well looked after by his new owners as it is believed that Guy has his own Union-Jack coat, eats only organic food and is taken on regular walks in the grounds of Kensington Palace.
