Michael Schumacher’s son’s emotional tribute

Formula One legend Michael Schumacher’s son Mick has shared heartwarming memories of his dad after claiming his first ever racing win.

The 19-year-old’s victory was made even more special as it occurred in the European Formula 3 at Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium, which was his dad’s favourite track.

The young Prema Theodore Racing driver said in an interview with Mobil 1 The Grid, that the track triggered many happy memories of his dad.

Michael Schumacher, who retired in 2012, remains the most successful F1 driver of all-time, taking the spot of world champion seven-times.

The track, which has been labelled “the living room” of Michael Schumacher, was also the track where he won his first F1 race in 1992.

“I have only good memories of Spa,” Mick said.

“As everybody knows, this is, let’s say, the living room of my dad.

“I really like and love racing here, because I know that he raced here as well.

“I’m always happy to be here and every year to come back here.”

The track is also where Mick was able to drive his father’s race-winning 1994 car during the lead-up to last year’s Belgian Grand Prix.

“The 1994 car was, for sure, stunning to have a lap in here,” he said.

Mick revealed that his heart is set on the F1 winner’s podium.

“For sure, my goal was always F1, and it’s still my goal,” he said.

“Now we’re doing one step after the other. I’m looking forward to it.”

Four years ago, Michael Schumacher suffered catastrophic brain injuries during a high-speed skiing accident that left him in a coma.

His family rarely talk about his condition in order to protect his privacy.

Earlier this year, the family released a rare statement thanking fans for their “empathy” and for “understanding his situation is not to be shared in the public eye”.
