Australia’s sweetheart Bindi Irwin is excitedly planning her wedding with partner Chandler Powell.

Mum Terri Irwin couldn’t be prouder and has shared a sweet detail as to how the pair plan on honouring Bindi’s father Steve at the wedding.

"We want to acknowledge Steve by all of us lighting this candle for him, but you know, I guess in some ways it's not necessary because Steve will be there anyway," Terri told the Courier Mail.

"I believe the people we love always are. You know, if you are missing someone, I think it's helpful to know that scientifically you can't actually create or extinguish life, you can only change its form," she said.

“So, if you are grieving someone you loved very much, look to science and just remember that when you boil the kettle and steam comes out, it doesn’t mean the water has gone.”

Terri also shared that Bindi’s brother Robert will walk her down the aisle in Steve’s absence.

“Bindi has asked Robert to walk her down,” Terri says, “which I think is so right, I know Steve would feel the same way too.”

Bindi announced her engagement to American wakeboarder Chandler as he proposed on her 21st birthday.

"On my birthday I said ‘yes’ & ‘forever’ to the love of my life," she wrote on Twitter.

"Chandler, close to 6 years ago I fell in love with you & every day since has been a whirlwind of adventure & true happiness. Here’s to a lifetime of friendship, purpose & unconditional love."
