5 ways to celebrate Mother’s Day if your mum is no longer around

Mother’s Day is a wonderful occasion to celebrate the many ways our mothers have contributed to our lives, but it can be quite emotional if she’s no longer with us. If your mum has passed away but you’d still like to show your appreciation, we’ve put together a few ideas to help you pay tribute to the woman who raised you.

  1. Make her favourite recipe – Every family has at least one recipe that’s been passed down from generation to generation. Whether it’s a delicious cake, comforting pasta bake or something else entirely, why not recreate her favourite dish and share it with the ones you love.
  2. Volunteer at her favourite charity – If your mother was a selfless and charitable woman, carry on her legacy with a visit to her favourite charity, organisation or animal shelter and find out how you can give back, just like she did.
  3. Flip through old photos – Reminisce on the good times you shared together by dusting off an old photo album and flipping through it with your loved ones. If your grandchildren are too young to remember her (or never got to meet her), it’s a fantastic way to introduce them – you could even make a scrapbook.
  4. Go to her favourite place – If you still live near where your mother lived, chances are you know her favourite spots. Put together a picnic, grab the family and pay a visit. She might not be there physically, but just the memory of her will make you feel like she’s right there.
  5. Visit her resting place – This’ll be difficult for many people, especially if your mother has passed recently, but it’s a wonderful way to feel connected to her and her memory. Bring along a bunch of her favourite flowers and tell her, as if she was standing right in front of you, what you would’ve liked to say if she was still around.

Tell us in the comments below, what are your plans this Mother’s Day?
