"Bedtime fail": Jacinda Arden interrupted during live address

Jacinda Ardern thought she would make the most of some quiet time after her daughter Neve went to bed earlier this week. However, as every parent will understand, just because a child has been put to bed, it doesn’t mean they’ll stay there.

The PM was in the middle of a Facebook Live broadcast to the nation about COVID-19 lockdowns, when her three-year-old, Neve chose that exact moment to interrupt.

"You're meant to be in bed darling," Ms Ardern says to the little girl.

"It's bedtime darling, pop back to bed, I'll come and see you in a second. I'll come and see you in a minute, OK? Nanny will take you down to bed."

As Ms Ardern's mother took Neve back to bed, the PM apologised for the 'bedtime fail'.

"Sorry, everyone, I thought 'Here's a moment, I'll do a Facebook Live, we're nice and safe," she said. "Does anyone else have kids that escape three or four times after bedtime?"

As if to prove her mother's point, it wasn't long before Neve was back asking the PM how much longer she would be.

"I'm sorry darling, it is taking so long, OK," Ms Ardern said, before wrapping up the broadcast with promises to do an "extended, uninterrupted" version later in the week.

Auckland has been in lockdown for nearly three months with restrictions expected to lift within the next few weeks.
