Adelaide woman struck by train while rescuing her dog

A woman has been fatally struck by a train in Adelaide, trying to save her dog.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Cowper Terrace at Black Forest in Adelaide’s south.

It is believed she was trying to save her dog at the time the incident took place at around 1 pm on Tuesday September 13.

She was struck by the passing train about 150m south of the Clarence Park Train Station.

The 63-year-old woman and her dog died at the scene. It is understood that she had been walking her dog when he got away from her and ran onto the tracks.

She reportedly followed the dog onto the tracks and was attempting to get him to safety when they were both struck.

Witnesses said the train driver tried to avoid the accident, braking desperately and blowing the horn for about eight seconds as the train slowed. One witness spoke of feeling “two bumps” and hearing “two loud thumps”.

Passengers were jolted forward when the train finally did stop and the Seaford and Flinders train lines were shut down for three hours.
