6 things you missed from baby Archie’s christening
On Saturday morning, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was christened in an intimate ceremony at Windsor Castle.
Conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby, the monumental occasion was attended by 25 close friends and family members.
The royal couple took to their official Instagram account to share photos from the event, featuring the pair’s family members.
The first photo is a group portrait including Prince Charles, Camilla Parker Bowles, Meghan’s mother Doria Ragland, and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge Prince William and Kate.
“This morning, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s son, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was christened in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle at an intimate service officiated by the Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby,” read the caption.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are so happy to share the joy of this day with members of the public who have been incredibly supportive since the birth of their son. They thank you for your kindness in welcoming their firstborn celebrating this special moment.”
They then shared a second black and white portrait of themselves having a special moment with Archie in the rose garden.
Archie’s christening was a private event, meaning members of the media were not allowed to sneak a glimpse of the newborn.

1. The Queen was not there
The Queen is a busy woman, so it’s no surprise that she was unable to make her great-grandson’s christening.
According to the BBC, The Queen wasn’t able to attend due to a “prior engagement”.
2. The history behind little Archie’s christening gown
Archie was baptised wearing the handmade replica of the royal christening gown which has been worn by royal babies for the last 11 years.
The original Royal Christening Robe, made of fine Honiton lace was commissioned by Queen Victoria in 1841 and was first worn by her eldest daughter.
3. Who are the random people at the back of the photo?
Some may not recognise the two women standing alongside the royal family, but they are Lady Jane Fellowes and Lady Sarah McCorquodale, the sisters of Princess Diana.
4. Kate’s subtle nod to Princess Diana
The Duchesses are known to pay tribute to their late mother-in-law from time to time, and in this instance, it was Kate who chose to wear a pair of earrings belonging to Diana.
The Collingwood pearl earrings are the same pair the late Princess wore for Harry’s christening in 1984.
5. We may know who Archie’s godparents are
After revealing to the public that the godparents of Archie will be kept a secret, British media has reported that the Duke of Sussex’s best friend Charlie van Straubenzee, who has previously been known as Harry’s “wingman” has been given the honour.
It is also alleged that Harry’s nanny Tiggy Legge Bourke is the baby’s godmother.
6. We finally got to see Archie’s hair colour
People have been waiting with bated breath to see if Archie has taken after his dad in the hair department, and it seems like he has.
By the looks of it, Archie has red hair just like the Prince himself.
