Experts reveal how to make your hair grow faster

Want longer hair but find it takes way too long to grow out? Well, we may finally have found the solution. Redbook spoke to hair stylists John Kovacs, Matt Fugate and Jennifer Matos about what to do (and what not to do) if you yearn for longer locks. Here are their eight tricks.

  1. Increase your vitamin intake – “Vitamins like biotin [and] Vitamin E […] are miracle workers for making your hair grow,” Kovacs says.
  2. Cut back on colouring – “Stay away from harsh chemicals on the hair until you reach your desired length.”
  3. Give heated styling tools a rest – “Always, always, always use a thermal protector even when you’re styling with air,” Fugate advises. “If you can, don’t use heat tools when trying to grow your locks.”
  4. Use the right brush – Always be gentle when brushing or combing your hair. “Avoid wire or metal round brushes. Boar is your friend and larger brushes are better, as they create less tension.”
  5. Forget hair elastics – “Avoid at all costs! If you’re going to bund your hair, be very mindful about how you take out the band. Always unwrap it, never just yank it out.”
  6. Indulge in a scalp massage – massaging the scalp improves circulation to the hair follicles and stimulates growth.
  7. Mosturise – “Just like our skin, it’s crucial to moisturise your hair weekly or monthly,” says Matos.
  8. Avoid tight buns and ponytails – “Try not to tie your hair so tight when you’re working out. This will definitely break it at the root.”
