7 foods to use as beauty products for the face

Your skin needs a bit of help combatting all of their air pollution, harsh winds and of course, the blistering sun. Expensive skincare creams claim that they will hydrate dry skin, eliminate wrinkles and just about do this evenings dishes. However, in reality, there are a lot of harmful toxins in these products including fragrances, parabens and mercury.

Alas though, here are some more natural beauty remedies you can find in your home our supermarket. These seven foods are as good on your face as they are on your plate.

1. Bananas

You can use a banana as an all-natural facemask that moisturises your skin and leaves it looking and feeling softer. Mash up a medium-sized ripe banana into a smooth paste, then gently apply it to your face and neck. Let it set for 10-20 minutes, then rinse it off with cold water. Another popular mask recipe calls for 1/4 cup plain yogurt, 2 tablespoons honey, and 1 medium banana.

2. Vinegar

Mother nature’s toner, said to be used by Helen of Troy. Mix 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar with 2 cups water as a finishing rinse to cleanse and tighten your skin. You can also make your own facial treatment by mixing 1/4 cup cider vinegar with 1/4 cup water. Gently apply the solution to your face and let it dry.

3. Milk

Fancy a soothing spa-like facial? Make a mask by mixing 1/4 cup powdered milk with enough water to form a thick paste. Thoroughly coat your face with the mixture, let dry completely, then rinse with warm water. Your face will feel fresh and rejuvenated.

4. Mayonnaise

Whole egg mayonnaise makes a great facial right from the refrigerator. Gently spread the mayonnaise over your face and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Then wipe it off and rinse with cool water. Your face will feel clean and smooth.

5. Egg

If you have dry skin that needs moisturising, separate the egg and beat the yolk. Oily skin takes the egg white, to which a bit of lemon or honey can be added. For normal skin, use the entire egg. Apply the beaten egg, relax and wait 30 minutes, then rinse. You’ll love your new fresh face.

6. Mustard

Brace yourself for this one. A facial with mustard will smooth and stimulate your skin. Best to test patch an area first.

7. Lemon

Create a facial that both exfoliates and moisturizes by mixing the juice from 1 lemon with ¼ cup olive oil or sweet almond oil.
