Most common thing people regret at end of life

Nobody wants to look back on their life and have endless regrets. But it’s easy to get to the end of your life and realise that there are things that you wish you had done (or hadn’t done), and by then it’s too late. So how do you make positive changes now to avoid that happening?

Ask yourself what you really want out of life. Most likely it will have to do with family, friends and happiness.

So why do we spend so much time focusing on getting a better job, a bigger house, or obtaining more belongings? It’s because we focus on what we want in our life right now, instead of thinking of the bigger picture.

Kids don’t care whether you had a big house or a fancy car, but they will remember the time you spent with them playing in the backyard or kicking a ball down at the beach.

Think about the goals that you have for your life, and then work backwards to decide what you need to be doing now to make them happen. Make a specific action plan to help you achieve your goals.

You might even find some surprising insights such as “I want to work less hours” or “I want to stop spending time with people who don’t make me feel good.”

When you ask yourself why you want to achieve these goals it can also increase your motivation. For instance you might decide that you would like to start a new tradition of an annual camping holiday with friends. The reasons could be to spend time away from technology, reconnect with old friends, and to be close to nature. Surely those reasons would give you a push to start making it happen.
