Home and Away star dies at age 43

Home and Away star Catherine Godbold has sadly passed away after battling brain cancer.

Catherine’s family confirmed the tragic news to 9News on Friday.

The actress, who was also known for her role in The Saddle Club, was just 43 years old.

In 2007, Catherine was first diagnosed with brain cancer and she had a tumour removed and underwent chemotherapy at Melbourne Hospital.

After going to hospital for a broken foot in January this year, she found out that the cancer had returned.

Close family friend Sally Browne visited Catherine daily in the leadup to her death.

Cathy was a wonderful, young woman and a very talented young actress," she told 9News.

"But like all brain tumours, it eventually took over and it was just a tragic, tragic end.

"We also had her scrapbooks there and were reading to her – so there were some beautiful, poignant moments as well."

Catherine starred as Meg Bowman in the 1990s for Home and Away and appeared as Deborah Hale in The Saddle Club.

She also appeared on Neighbours, Hey Dad and Newlyweds.

Catherine was the daughter of Logie winner Rosemary Margan, who passed away in December last year.
