Signs that it’s time to replace your hearing aids

There’s no doubt about it: hearing aids are expensive little devices that you want to last as long as possible, however, there are times when they need to be replaced. Whether it’s time for an upgrade depends on a number of factors. For instance, how soon you need a new pair will depend on how well you’ve taken care of the aids and whether or not there have been any changes in your hearing. In any case, here are a few tell-tale signs it might be time to see your hearing care provider for something new.

It’s been more than five years

The average life expectancy of hearing aids is five to seven years, which is usually generous at best. Most last around three to five years.

You’re paying through the nose for repairs

If you’re finding that your hearing aids start to need more and more repairs, it might be time to look into new ones. Repair costs can add up and it’s generally worthwhile to invest your money in new, more advanced hearing aid, which works out as a better long-term solution.

Your hearing threshold has changed

If your hearing aids are in good condition but you’re having some trouble hearing with them, it could mean that your hearing threshold has changed. If it’s changed dramatically, your audiologist might recommend it’s time for new aids.

Your aids aren’t working as well as they used too

Hearing aid technology has – and continues to – advance rapidly. New devices have improved hearing in background noise, smaller packaging and wireless connectivity. If you believe your device is no longer functioning at its best, get them checked! Having hearing aids perform at their best is crucial for safety as well as quality of life.
