A wife’s touching poem for sick husband

Judi Walker is a registered nurse who loves writing and cooking. The 61-year-old is a self-published author with two books of poetry under her belt. Here she shares a special poem about the powerful bond between a husband and wife’s everlasting love.

Some say "what a sweetie" and others, "such a shame"

There are those who mutter "hello love" as though he has no name.

I know his ways are simple and dependent like a child,

I looked across to see the nurse and to myself I smiled.

There are some who think they know this man and they direct his life,

But this man is my husband, and I am this man's wife.

It was my feet he swept me off with all his charm and grace,

I walked to meet him down the aisle in taffeta and lace.

This man had strength and courage, the rock on which I lent,

So many thoughts of days gone by and special times we spent.

It's true the feet now shuffle and mass confusion reigns,

And as he tries once more to leave, again my courage drains.

It's true that life has dealt a blow, I wonder how I'll cope,

But don't forget this child you see is still a decent bloke.

I gave to him two children and he gave them to me,

We'd go to Church on Sundays and invite friends round for tea.

How could we know the time would come a time of little joy,

A time when to replace my man would come a little boy.

But love cannot be measured in good times and in bad,

And love cannot be gauged upon the happy times and sad.

So many years I've had with him, so many days as one,

The struggles and the battles fought but this one's just begun.

I look at him with quiet pride my eyes are filled with tears,

And then he pats me on my cheek and out go all my fears.

With him I'll fight until the end and thank God for our life,

For this man is my husband and I am this man's wife.
