Why Prince Philip might not be at the royal wedding

On May 19th the eyes of the world will be firmly focussed on Windsor Castle when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the know, but early reports have suggested one of the royal family’s most famous figures won’t be in attendance.

A big question mark remains over Prince Philip status at the ceremony, as the 96-year-old continues to rest after undergoing necessary surgery on his hip.

The Duke of Edinburgh is reportedly waiting to see how he feels but the time the big day comes around.

Nine.com.au reports part of the reason Prince Harry chose to keep the ceremony so short, was to ensure his two beloved grandparents could attend.

Royal expert Marlene Koenig said, "If Philip is confined to his room, I would expect he would watch the ceremony on TV—and, I would think, after the wedding, Harry would bring his new wife to see his grandfather and perhaps enjoy a piece of elderflower and lemon cake together."

This news come as details surrounding the royal wedding start to firm up with Prince William recently confirmed as Harry’s best man.
